Mother Sue's Meanderings

Blessed Eastertide,

Alleluia!!! He is RISEN!

Everyday this time of year brings some new wonder to gaze upon. As I sit at my dining room table each day and watch the trees gain more and more leaves, the birds find new places to perch unseen to the human eye, the flowers and colors of spring begin to take shape and create a new landscape. A welcome sight after the long winter past. It is no surprise our celebration of resurrection comes just as the earth itself is being resurrected.

With modern technology our lives have drastically changed with the inventions of such things as electricity. We now have lights to illumine our day, heat to warm our homes, air conditioning to cool our homes and alarm clocks to tell us it is time to get up. It wasn’t all that many years ago that our ancestors relied on nature to form the events of their lives. They would wake with the sun, go to bed with the moon, build a fire to warm the family and sweat when it was too warm. However, our lives no longer are directed by nature.

The good news is that no matter how technologically efficient we become our spiritual lives are still influenced by the seasons of the year. Not just the liturgical seasons, but the seasons of nature. Spring is a time of year that is filled with hope. Spring is a time of year that is filled with renewed energy. Spring is a time of year that is filled with excitement for the summer that lies ahead. Spiritually it is similar.

We have had hope exemplified once again as we celebrate the miracle of resurrection. We have journeyed through the dark days of Lent and Holy Week and have observed the new light of Christ emerge from the tomb. We now look forward to the work that God has for us to do in the coming season.

As we walk with our Lord this spring let’s remember the feeling of excitement and let’s take the new energy of God‘s love seriously as we take the final steps toward choosing the permanent home of Christ Episcopal Church. Finally, let’s make this Easter season one that truly speaks to resurrection—let’s embark on meaningful ministry in the name of our Lord and for the benefit of the people of Christ Church. Then we will all be able to sit and watch as the landscape of our parish begins to come into full bloom.

Alleluia! He is RISEN indeed!!!
